What is interceptor body armor?

Interceptor body armor, also known as the Interceptor Multi-Threat Body Armor System, was a type of bulletproof vest used by the United States military. It was primarily used by the Army and Marine Corps during the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts.

The Interceptor body armor was designed to protect against small arms fire, shrapnel, and other ballistic threats. It featured a modular design that allowed for easy customization and various levels of protection.

The vest consisted of several components, including a front and back protective plate, ballistic panels, shoulder and throat protectors, and groin protectors. It was made from a combination of materials such as Kevlar and ceramic plates to provide maximum protection while still being lightweight and comfortable for the wearer.

The Interceptor body armor was eventually replaced by the Improved Outer Tactical Vest (IOTV) and the Soldier Plate Carrier System (SPCS) as the standard issue armor for the US military. However, the Interceptor body armor was still widely used by US and allied forces during the early years of the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.
